Design and Features
The LaCie RuggedKey consists of two parts. The drive's chassis is a thin, P-shaped sliver of metal that sports a keychain ring on the upper right side. While this portion is fairly minimalist in appearance, the actual "rugged" component is a cylindrical bright orange rubber sleeve that slips on an off of the drive. The sleeve is designed to be used whenever the RuggedKey is transported and, conversely, must be removed for the drive to be plugged in. When sporting the sleeve, the RuggedKey is roughly the size of a shotgun shell, measuring 2.09 by .83 by 1.06 inches (HWD). While the rubber sleeve helpfully seals the RuggedKey off from water and temperature damage while also making it drop-resistant, the fact that it's removable means that it can easily be lost. Although the bright orange color makes it slightly easier to find if this is the case, it nonetheless constitutes a design flaw, as the RuggedKey isn't quite so rugged without its protective sleeve.

Given its cylindrical shape, the RuggedKey feels bulkier in the pockets that other comparable drives, with the exception of the Duracell Rugged USB Drive (16GB). And the bulkiness doesn't stop at your chinos. As a result of the drive's asymmetrical P-shaped design, the slight protrusion on the side of the chassis crowds out neighboring ports to the immediate right.

The RuggedKey is both Windows- and Mac-compatible and offers 14.8GB of usable space out of the box since it comes pre-loaded with some software. Among the included programs are LaCie's proprietary Backup Software, a password protection program that utilizes 256-bit software encryption, MacFuse, and a free one-year subscription to Wuala Online, LaCie's cloud storage program.

Oculus Rift

Games has been played from the beginning of time, it is one of the ways humans recreate and have fun. From football to cricket we all love games. The rise of  technological innovations has given birth something totally different which was never experience been none before us. I speak of the birth h of video games; from Play-Station to X-box the gaming world just seem to be growing with its wide variety of games that suits almost everyone.

The way gaming is done today is vastly different from yesteryear's. There is the typical game control that is held in the hand to manipulate the movement of characters on a screen. This new breakthrough technology has given gaming a new meaning and has brought it up close and personal in the form of a device called Oculus Rift. This device was designed exclusively for gaming to create a personal experience that cannot be forgotten.

I congratulate the pioneers of such a great master piece. technology would steadly increase and this is just the surface of what is to come in the future.


  

Tooth Sensor

I was looking for some modern break through technologies and I stumbled upon this which I found very fascinating a tooth sensor. This was developed by scientist at Princeton and Turfs University. The really purpose of this invention is to bring some sort of relief to person who are fearful about going to the dentist. The sensor would be able to detect bacteria that can cause cavities and plaque buildup.

The million dollar question is how effective can something like this actually be and what would be the health risks involved in wear something like this inside your mouth. In all honesty I love the fact that man are creating new ways to do things and taking full advantage of the advancements in technology. However there are something that cannot be replaced such as the dentist. The individuals wearing this at some point in time would have to visit the dentist and being able to face your fears to have a better health should be of paramount importance.

There must be some health factors to consider before putting something like this in a person's mouth and I personally do not think this would make a significant difference in the life of any individual.

Livescribe Echo Smartpen

A Livescribe smartpen is about the size and weight of a large pen (5/8" x 6 1/8"), and is equipped with a removable ball-point ink cartridge, a microphone to record audio, a speaker for playback, a small OLED display, an infra-red camera, and internal flash memory that captures handwritten notes, audio and drawings.
The user can choose to record audio in addition to the handwritten text. Recorded audio is kept indexed with the handwritten text—tapping on a written word starts playback of the recorded audio from that part of the recording.

The smartpen allows the installation of as many applications as there is memory, and ships with several applications. If tapped on the correct images, it can function as a calculator, for example, or can translate words (the translator software as shipped includes only 21 words in a small selection of languages - as of September 2010 there are no public plans to make a full version of this translator available.

I think that’s a great idea, incorporating this technology with educational institutions would be of tremendous benefit. We should take advantage of anything that would positively impact our lives such a device is not harmful to learning. When you get that light bulb moment immediately you can store it and refer to it at a later date. It should be considered as a step into the future we have only scratched the surface.
